Climate Change. I'm very passionate about climate change, or at least helping people understand that it is real and that it's effects are extremely serious and detrimental to our planet and human life. It has been scientifically proven to be occurring. As for people not believing it...our country's president leads many of them. Here are some of his tweets on the topic:
"The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive." (11-6-2012)
"Ice storm rolls from Texas to Tennessee - I'm in Los Angeles and it's freezing. Global warming is a total, and very expensive, hoax!" (12-6-2013)
"NBC News just called it the great freeze - coldest weather in years. Is our country still spending money on the GLOBAL WARMING HOAX?" (1-25-2014)
"Snowing in Texas and Louisiana, record setting freezing temperatures throughout the country and beyond. Global warming is an expensive hoax!" (1-29-2014)
"Give me clean, beautiful and healthy air - not the same old climate change (global warming) bullshit! I am tired of hearing this nonsense." (1-29-2014)
These are real tweets from Donald Trump's real, verified Twitter account. In looking for a compilation of the tweets above, I came across a Snopes article. As in, people are wondering if Trump has really said something so ridiculous. And he has.
I don't want this to turn into a debate over whether or not someone does or doesn't like Trump, but you have to admit that it is complete BS to repeatedly call climate change (aka global warming) a hoax, and therefore deny that it's happening. Otherwise, you're in the BS group and a quick Google search will provide you with information on how climate change is observable and testable, and scientifically proven.
I care about this topic so much because it is harming our world. When the President of the United States is claiming that climate change is not happening, people are going to go along with it and believe him. Climate change is altering our planet, slowly modifying climate and leading to the extinction of several species. There are steps we could be taking to slow the damage, things we could be doing to lessen our contribution as a nation to this issue. The United States is the most prolific country in the world, and ignoring this issue by denying it's existence is unfair to everyone and everything that lives on this planet.

I think it is disturbing when the man that represents one of the leading countries in the world announces something like the things you pointed out in your post. To overcome the problem of the climate change we need efforts from every country. Even though sometimes the global warming seems to be somewhere else (remember the snowstorm just a week ago) it is true and it is scientifically proved. It is slow but it doesn't justify the position that I don't want to deal with it because it won't really affect my life. We need to think about the future generations or very soon there would be nobody on this planet to tweet.
ReplyDeleteI am so happy that you picked to talk about this. I find it the most interesting argument and I find myself having to re-read our President's tweets regarding this topic trying to see if he is being real or sarcastic. This is such a huge topic. There is so much information on Climate Change and it is so important in this day and age that we talk about it. We only have one planet! (Unless we find another one obviously) but still! It's also harming those who faithfully believe that climate change DOES exist - because of the mindset that our president has stowed into other's minds. It is so important that we help our future generations and in order to do so, there are so many things that we need to do to inform those who don't believe in this devastating topic.
